چکیده

This paper describes the design of a power and data telemetry system intended for biomedical implants. The power generation unit utilizes a voltage quadruple, a novel voltage limiter, a new low-power supply-independent voltage reference and a linear voltage regulator. The ASK demodulator uses a high performance comparator based scheme which can recover modulation indices range from 5% up to 90%. Using a 0.18μm CMOS technology the whole system consumes 55μA from the induced power (excluding stimulation current). The system is capable of providing 1.1mA stimulation current under a 3V regulated supply. Keywords-power and data telemetry; ASK demodulation; voltage multiplier; voltage regulation; biomedical implants

Ultra-Low-Power Links for Brain Probing

This paper discusses signal processing and circuit techniques for ultra-low-power many-channel wireless telemetry. Signal processing has to be performed online to reduce transmit data rate. The choice of signal compression algorithm can greatly reduce energy, much beyond levels attainable by implementation. Since real-time performance required from biomedical implants is much lower than delay o...

BER Performance of a BPSK Biomedical Telemetry System under Varying Coupling and Loading Conditions

Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) is a promising modulation format for downlink data transmission in inductive biomedical telemetry systems, because it achieves high data rates and power efficiencies and requires simple electronics. In this paper, the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of a BPSK biomedical telemetry system is investigated under Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and is found to ...
